Bingo Volunteering Info Session

Expired

Description

Feeding the Foothills operates a charity bingo game on Thursdays and Saturdays at Grand Oaks Bingo Hall in Citrus Heights. Bingo is a big fundraiser for the food bank and the money raised helps cover the cost of our programs.

We rely on a team of dedicated volunteers to support our bingo staff and keep the operation running smoothly. Volunteering at bingo is a bit different than volunteering at our warehouse or mobile distributions, but it's another great way to support the work we do at the food bank. Volunteer schedules are set on a monthly basis, and volunteers must commit to at least two shifts per month.

At bingo, volunteers assist with running the cash registers and ringing up players, running supplies throughout the bingo tables to various players during games, assisting with counting, calling numbers, and payouts. Shifts occur between 3pm-1am on Thursday and Saturday evenings, and vary in length from 4-8 hours.

Requirements for Bingo Volunteers:

  • Maintain a friendly, positive attitude towards bingo players, other volunteers, and staff
  • At least 18 years old. No minors are allowed in gambling facilities per CA state law, including volunteers.
  • Accurate and efficient mental math abilities
  • Comfortable handling cash and mentally calculating change and payouts
  • Able to stand for several hours at a time at a cash register counter
  • Able to walk for several hours at a time carrying up to 5lbs
  • Comfortable interacting with guests in a busy, sometimes noisy indoor space
  • Be available for at least two shifts every month, and communicate any absences or conflicts with the bingo staff at least one month in advance
  • Commit to a monthly schedule of shifts

If this sounds like you, sign up for an info session at our warehouse! Staff will talk over more details about the role and the requirements during this info session.

Please note that volunteering at bingo is one of the few opportunities that is not automatically available to everyone. Training new bingo volunteers requires a significant amount of staff time, so we try to ensure that the volunteers who receive training are well-suited and committed to the role. Please don't take it personally if staff decide that you are better suited to other volunteer opportunities at the food bank. It's never a personal decision and we will be thrilled to help you find other volunteer roles that are a better fit for you.
