(L - R: Carlo, Shannon, Ashley, Joey, Robin)
This is an extra-special spotlight! Carlo, Ashley, and Joey are three of many students who have volunteered at FTF as part of Western Placer Unified School District's post-graduate special education job training program. They are all recent high school grads who are seeking a variety of work experiences before they head out into the professional world, and we are thrilled to be one of the sites where they volunteer.
This program provides them with real-world work experience, the chance to explore coworker/co-volunteer relationships with their fellow volunteers and FTF staff, and they help us pack and prepare the food we need for our distributions. We look forward to their shift every week and encourage you to sing up for it if you're interested! Now a bit more about them and their teachers:
Ashley is all smiles. There will never be a time when you see Ashley and she isn't smiling. It's contagious and sometimes, all you need to do is smile to get through the day. Ashley enjoys a good joke and video games. Her Favorite food is spaghetti with meatballs. And is a basketball fanatic who loves the Golden State Warriors and also coaches a basketball team!
Carlo is a charming smooth talker. He gets along with everyone and is great at balancing hilarious conversation with getting tasks done efficiently. He loves singing and rapping as well as playing basketball and golf. He loves any type of food and loves to cook. He loves helping people and volunteering and his favorite shoes are Jordans.
Joey is fascinated with body building and is constantly studying and striving to work on his "gains". His favorite hobbies are exercising and video games. Joey is a yoga master and grilled cheese sandwiches and olive oil are some of his favorite foods.
Shannon and Robin are two of the teachers in the program and they accompany the students to their shifts at the warehouse.
Robin is on the quiet side, but he has some amazing stories once you get him chatting! He loves to ride his bicycle a lot. He once rode it from Santa Cruz to New York! Not in one go but still extremely impressive. Favorite food is Mexican food and favorite team are the San Francisco 49er's and Sacramento Kings.
Shannon is an amazing leader. She is someone anyone can look up to and can confide in. She balances being a supportive leader well with giving the students room to learn and grow. She is a nana of 2 who likes sushi, can ride a unicycle, and has amazing taste in music.
